A trip to Hebei

I started the day by travelling from Beijing, the Capital of China, and heading directly to Hebei province and finally reporting to the Quzhou Experiment Station which is operated by China Agricultural University.

The trip itself has been convenient as we took a rental bus service which was organized by our college.

I have learned when this station was established, and hence why we are here as an African student combined with Chinese students to stay for a couple of months in this station to learn how to conduct field trials and most importantly, how to communicate with farmers about the outcome of our experiment. I came to realize that China has invested hugely in the agricultural research so as to come up with solutions for the real challenges facing smallholders' farmers and agriculture as a sector. I have also learned that, if the younger generation like us will be exposed to the high agricultural training like this one, it will attract and motivate more and more young people to participate in agricultural area of expertise and agriculture chain of production.

I have also learned that everything to be successful in life, everything should be well prepared. Talking about the way the trip was organized, the reception and the facilities around the station told me that this project was meant to be one of the most successful projects in agriculture between China and Africa. I also learned that China as a country has achieved food security thanks to joint efforts among agriculture and related sectors to achieve the common goal.

This is the big lesson and motivation for me to try my best to shape myself in a way that will make me more fruitful and hence contribute to the intensification of agriculture back home. Also, the fact that this project draws attention from other reputable stakeholders like Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations(FAO), Warner Bros(WB), Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation teaches me the importance of global partnership to fight against hunger.

Tonight, as I sit down to write this summary of these days, I honestly feel motivated, cared for, and well prepared to pursue this noble course of humanity—food security. As one wise man once said “Everything can wait, except Agriculture”, I will go back to Africa and push the agricultural transformation across the continent and maintain a good relationship between China and Africa in the field of Agriculture.

I would like to pinpoint out my expectations that in the next few months I would like to be actively engaged in this training program, working together with teachers, staff and Chinese students so that we can learn from each other and maintain lifelong relationship.
